Chicago native Logan Greifelt, aka Skullface, was crowned winner of the 2023 annual Solo Yolo World Series of Warzone. He won $100,000 in the competition.
On September 17, 2023, Logan Greifelt better known for his gaming name Skullface, was crowned the winner of the Solo Yolo World Series of Warzone. He came home with $100,000. Hundreds of gamers from all over the world traveled to London, England, to attend the event.
The Solo Yolo competition had 150 participants all with the $100,000 cash prize in mind. Players needed to win multiple tournaments prior to have qualified for the Warzone World Series.
“When I won the Solo Yolo I was just shocked for a couple of minutes. Didn’t really know what to do, was just jumping up and down and yelling. Then it kicked in and will be probably the best moment of my career,” said Greifelt.
The Warzone World Series was founded in 2020 and has grown substantially since then. This year, according to Esports Insider the tournament reached a peak viewership of 298,174 people, the most the tournament has ever had. It was also the first event to be held on LAN,
which stands for local area network.
Greifelt has been playing video games under the name Skullface since he was around 8 years old. He started his gaming career like many others during the pandemic. “When Covid began I started to stream and compete because that was all I can do. I then realized I had what it takes to be the best.” Now in 2023 he is a two-time Warzone World Series champion.
Warzone is a video game created by the Call of Duty franchise. It is a multiplayer video game where people compete against each other on all different gaming platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. The objective of the game is to kill other players and be the last person
standing. The game is very popular and has been growing for years now.
Greifelt grew up in a small town outside of Chicago, called River Forest, Illinois. Growing up, him and his brother Jake played a lot of video games. “Logan has been playing video games since he was six after first being introduced to them by our cousins Alex and Joey,” said his
brother Jake. The brothers shared an Xbox 360 growing up, and their favorite games were Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2, and Call of Duty World at War. “I used to be better than Logan. That was
because I didn’t like sharing the game. However, by the time of 8 he was better than 80% of people who played,” Jake added.
Jake was lucky enough to be there live in London and support his brother during the competition. He said that being able to watch his brother play in the tournament was one of the most exciting events he had ever been a part of. “The stadium and environment surrounding the
event were absolutely electric.” Each player sat in their own cubical with a system and screen hooked up to a jumbotron for the rest of the crowd to be able to watch.
“No doubt in my mind I knew Logan was going to be one of the best. If he could put his mind to anything he will accomplish it. Especially living under the same roof as him I have seen highlights occur daily.” He also talked about how unlike everyone else, the pandemic helped his brother and gave him an opportunity to expand his name. “He has a unique personality that has created a sort of brand for himself in the gaming industry.”
On top of that I was also able to talk to Ryan Planek, a local from River Forest, Illinois, who has been good friends with Greifelt since they were in the fourth grade together. He talked about how he’s always been the best at video games. He said that in middle school and high
school they played Fortnite, Minecraft, and Call of Duty. “He was always the best, sadly I am not a good enough player to play with him anymore.” Planek also added, “it makes me proud of
the boy. He’s really gone and done and is doing everything he sought out to do.”
In the link above you can watch the video the final kill and how Greifelt won the tournament. You see him in the video using the high ground to his advantage and taking down multiple opponents. He then jumps down and takes out the final mad standing to solidify himself
as the winner. You can feel the excitement in the video as the announcers are screaming and when Greiflet jumps up after securing the win.
Right now, Greifelt has sponsorships from Scuff Gaming and Ghost Lifestyle. Scuff Gaming specializes in custom remotes meant for professional gamers and Ghost Lifestyle is an
energy drink company that sponsors many gamers. “Many more are coming,” he said based on
his recent success.
Most of his content gets streamed on his Twitch Channel titled Skullface49. He dedicates around 40 hours a week to his live stream channel. Twitch is a platform which allows people to stream live content for the public eye to see. You can find the rest of his content like YouTube and TikTok through the bio on his Instagram page titled Realskullface.
The next big tournament he will be competing in is on Halloween, with a prize of $40,000. You’ll be able to watch the tournament via his stream. Besides that, he doesn’t have
much planned and is waiting for the new Call of Duty, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, which is supposed to drop on November 10th
